For the information of the readers, in the year of 2008, Telenor bought 51 % shares of Tameer bank for Rs. 1 billion. The main and primary reason behind this borrowing was that they want to start a mobile financial service named by Easy paisa. It has been a practice and obligatory for the telecom companies that they cannot start any mobile financial service on their own. It is important and imperative for any telecom company to have a joint venture with a bank so that they can start with these services. That is why Telenor shake hands with Tameer bank and start with this mobile financial service.

After five years, Telenor is now in a position to buy out all the stakes of Tameer bank. State Bank of Pakistan has approved this request of Telenor and they have officially declared that they can now buy and acquire the remaining stakes of Tameer bank. So far, it has not been declared in what amount remaining shares have been bought by Telenor!

From the figures, it has been found that Easy paisa which is a joint venture of Telenor Pakistan and Tameer bank, it has become a major contributor for Telenorís revenues.
