Arrow Delay in mark sheet release jeopardises students’ future

The futures of a number of students who successfully cleared their matriculation exams is at stake, as they have been unable to apply for admissions to colleges due to delay in receiving their matriculation mark sheets, The News has learnt.

Centralised Admission Policy (CAP) Karachi Chairman Dr Professor Rafiq Siddiqui has said that a one-month relaxation period has been awarded to those students who are yet to collect their mark sheets or to submit their admission forms for any reasons, adding that they are advised to complete the admission process at the Director General (Colleges) office.

Dr Siddiqui also said that CAP has already had to extend the admission dates three times to accommodate the students. “Students who get their mark sheets in a month time, will be considered eligible to take admission in colleges,” he said. “Admissions will be offered according to their marks and closing percentage of the college,” he added.

CAP had received less application forms this year as compared to the previous year, while 14,156 forms out of a total of 93,961 were not submitted by the students, he said.

On the other hand, Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) Controller of Examinations Kalim Asghar Kirmani has said that most withheld cases belong to students who appeared in ten papers at a time, without prior permission from BSEK.

“Students are not allowed to appear in ten papers in one attempt. This facility is given to students who have failed twice in annual and supplementary examinations. In such cases, a student can go for a registration of Class IX or appear in combined papers (ten papers),” he said.

BSEK also withheld the results of the students (General and Science Group) who appeared from one institute in Class IX exams and then from another examination centre in Class X exams, he added. There is also a category of students who had failed to clear their practical examinations and there result is not included in it, he further said.

According to BSEK officials, the results of 473 students were released out of the 3,518 withheld cases in General Group, while 1278 students have had their objections okayed out of 7,500 in the Science Group. More than 1,000 students have obtained migration certificates from BSEK who are not part of Karachi Board anymore, the officials added.

However, The News has learnt that there is some hope for those students who failed to get admitted to colleges. These students would be adjusted in 34 Higher Secondary Schools in the city, and the Education Department would offer admissions to all those students who could not get admissions anywhere else.

These students would, however, have to wait for a long period, and it would only be possible after other students under CAP get admitted to their desired colleges.
