INGREDIENTS:
BUTTER/MARGARINE(softened)......................1/2 cup(1 stick)
SUGAR............................................. ..............1 cup(granulated)
SHORTENING........................................ .........1/2 cup
SUGAR(light brown).......................................1/4 cup
VANILLA........................................... ..............1 tsp(extract)
EGG............................................... .................1 ea
ORANGE PEEL(optional).................................1 tbsp(grated)
FLOUR............................................. ...............2 3/4 cups(all purpose)
BAKING SODA.............................................. ...1 1/2tsp
ORANGE JUICE............................................. ...1/4 cup
CHOCOLATE(mini chip semi sweet).................2 cups(12 oz)

METHOD:
In large mixer bowl, beat butter,shortening,1 cup granulated sugar,brown sugar and vanilla untill light and fluffy. Add egg and orange peel(optional); blend well. Stir together flour,baking soda and salt; add alternately with juice to butter mixer. Mix in small chocolate chip. Cover; refrigerate dough about 1 hour or until firm enough to handle. Heat over to 350F. Shape dough into 1 inch balls; roll in granulated sugar. Place on un-greased cookie sheet; flatten by crisscrossing with tines of fork. Bake 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly, remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.
