    Q1. What, according to tucker, are the reasons, people jog for. Do they jog for the “fear of death”? bring out the elements of humour in the essay.

    Ans. According to Tucker, there are so many reasons people jog for, such as:
    I. To lower the blood pressure
    II. To escape from the cranky wife and trifling home chores
    III. To avoid doing any thing
    IV. To escape from the realization of having a vision in life
    Yes, the people jog for the “fear of dearth”. In this modern era, the people are the victims of a strange fear of reduction of resources like health, money, beauty and opportunities in life.
    The author creates humor in this essay by highlightening the absurdity and folly of modern man thinking that are reducing. Instead of the fear of death people have the fear of dearth, for which they do every they do every possible effort to prolong their lives by using jogging like activities.

    Q2. Is tucker being serious in his anslysis? How can you tell?

    Ans. Yes, tucker is serious in his analysis of psychology of modern man. Although he uses a very light tone, yet he brings modern man. Although he uses a very light tone, yet he brings our attention to a very serious problem i.e. the fear of reduction of resources in the world that is crushing a modern man. Besides, he gives a very deep analysis of why the people do jogging.

    Q3. Dearth means “an inadequate amount especially of food; scarcity, do you thing that the title of the essay is effective? Why did the author choose this particular title?

    Ans. I think that the title of this essay is very effective because the whole essay deals with the thought of reduction of resources on the part of modern man.
    The author chose this particular title to mock the attitude of modern man in fearing the dearth of resources rather than death.
